Cases of cervical cancer are being cut by almost 90% through the use of a vaccine.
Researchers say results from studies into the human papillomavirus vaccine have produced the first real world data.
Cancer Research UK has described the findings into HPA as "historic", and says it shows the vaccine is saving lives.
Naomi Thompson, from Cancer Focus NI is equally excited.
She said "Having a reduction is just amazing and so positive for the whole issue of cervical cancer. It's so important that research into vaccines and other treatments for cancer keeps going and also that people uptake the vaccine and also research goes on to show positive results that have come from it."
