A man has been arrested and a house has been badly damaged following a suspected arson attack in Newtownhamilton.
Police on patrol observed smoke coming a property in the Dungormley Estate, shortly before 10.45pm.
No-one was inside the house at the time, however, a neighbouring property had to be evacuated as NIFRS worked to extinguish the blaze.
There were no reports of any injuries.
The 31-year-old suspect was later detained on suspicion of arson endangering life with intent and remains in custody at this time.
Detective Sergeant McCarragher said: "Substantial damage was caused to the property as a result of this fire, which had the potential to spread to other adjoining houses, and which is being treated as arson endangering life."
