Woman tied up and house set on fire during aggravated burglary in Clough

A woman in her forties has been tied up by masked men during an aggravated burglary in Clough.

The intruders burst in to the property on the School Road after 1 yesterday afternoon and started a fire in an upstairs bedroom.

Thankfully passerbys saw the blaze and managed to raise the alarm.

An ipad and mac book air and peugeot 206 were taken from the property.

The vehicle was taken from the property and later found burnt out at The Old Mill on the Clarkill Road in Castlewellan.

MLA for the area Jim Wells has been speaking to Q Radio News:

Police and NIFRS attended and the fire was extinguished. Significant damage was caused as a result of the fire.


Detective Sergeant Johnston is appealing to anyone who witnessed any suspicious vehicles or persons in the area this afternoon or anyone with any information about the incident to contact Detectives at Ardmore Police Station on 101, quoting references 952 19/02/18. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent Charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.
