They had trailed the USA 4-0 after the first foursomes

Europe will hope to continue their fightback when the Ryder Cup golf resumes this afternoon.

They now trail the USA 5-3 overall, having been down four nil after losing all of the opening foursomes matches.

Rory McIlroy and Thomas Pieters were among the pairs who won their fourballs contests to put Darren Clarke's team back in contention.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, McIlroy says he was pleased with his contribution.

This afternoon's foursomes start at 1:35pm our time.
