"We have long had an intense rivalry on the pitch. But equally the clubs have an enduring friendship. The boards of directors of both Linfield and Glentoran have decided to recognise this unique relationship through the inauguration of this annual pre-season match to alternate between the Oval and Windsor Park."
Glentoran chairman Stephen Henderson added: “Our sporting rivalry has been the backdrop to many of the most iconic moments in the history of football in this country. We are delighted that this rivalry can be harnessed and allow us to contribute to the hugely important and compassionate work of the Northern Ireland Children's Hospice.”

Linfield chairman Roy McGivern said: “I am delighted that both clubs have agreed to participate in this new pre-season challenge game. We have a long history of sporting rivalry and it is very fitting that the two biggest clubs in Irish League football should work together for a very worthwhile cause."
The teams will play for a specially commissioned engraved crystal trophy.
The clubs will jointly make a donation to the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice from the match proceeds. The Hospice will also hold a match day collection at each end. Supporters are encouraged to give generously to what the clubs are calling "this incredible institution."
Payment will be at the gate with admission £8 (£5 concession).
