The Olympic dream is over for Belfast boxers Brendan Irvine and Michaela Walsh.

The Team Ireland boxing captain Irvine has lost 4-1 on points in Tokyo to Carlo Paalam of the Philippines in their first round last-32 flyweight bout.

Walsh went down to Italy's Irma Testa on a unanimous 5-0 decision in the last 16 of the featherweight division.

Meanwhile, the Ireland women's hockey team were beaten 4-0 by the Netherlands.

Goalkeeper Ayeisha McFerran, from Larne, starred for the Irish against the number one ranked side.

The GB men's hockey team, including Northern Ireland players Stephen Ames and Ian Sloan, earned a 3-1 win over Canada to make it two wins out of two.

Making their debut in the rugby 7s competition, Ireland's men have lost to South Africa and the USA.

Belfast archer Patrick Huston helped Team GB to a 6-0 win over Indonesia in their opening match. They later lost to the Netherlands but he goes again in the individual competition later this week.

Banbridge triathlete Russell White finished 48th in his event for Team Ireland after an heroic effort to recover from injury and qualify for the games.
