The County GAA board has turned down the veteran boss's request for an extension to 2018

Harte's current two-year deal comes to an end at the conclusion of next season, and the veteran boss had asked for an extension to the end of 2018. However, Tyrone officials appear to have turned down his request.

Harte is the longest serving manager in the country having been at Tyrone's helm since 2002.  Harte led the Red Hands to three Sam Maguire's in the 2000's and also one a first Ulster SFC last season; their first since 2010.

In last year's All-Ireland Harte's side were eliminated by Mayo, putting an end to Tyrone's eight-month unbeaten run
