Cabinet minister Michael Gove will today host talks with the EU Commission and Stormont ministers to try and get a resolution to post Brexit arrangements for trade with Northern Ireland.
New checks have caused disruption to goods, sparked threats against port workers and angered a growing number of unionists.
And last week the UK was furious when the EU tried to impose controls on vaccine exports, because of supply shortages on the continent.
Mr. Johnson has now called for urgent action from the EU amid rising tensions.
