A father and son are recovering in Altnagelvin Hospital after being overcome by slurry fumes at a shed on their farm in Claudy on Saturday.
The men - one in his 70s and the other in his 40s - were mixing hen slurry in a shed at the Hazlett family farm on the Ballyhanedin Road when they were overcome by fumes shortly before 4pm on Saturday afternoon.
Emergency services rushed to the scene in the air ambulance, three ground support ambulances and several fire crews.
The two men were airlifted to Altnagelvin Hospital where their conditions are described as ‘stable, with one man more critical than the other’.
Benbradagh Councillor Sean McGlinchey says the farming community in the area are ‘shocked but relieved that we are not coping with two fatalities’.
