Nine further Covid-19 deaths recorded in the past 24 hours

Nine further deaths of patients who had tested positive for Covid-19 have been reported in Northern Ireland.

The Department of Health said there had also been 1,248 new confirmed cases in the last 24-hour reporting period.

On Friday morning there were 409 Covid-positive patients in hospital, with 46 in intensive care.

So far, 2,456,256 vaccines have been administered.

The latest figures from the department come after it was reported that in Wales, around one in 110 people are estimated to have had Covid-19 in the week to August 28, up from one in 120 in the previous week and the highest level since the week to February 6.

Meanwhile, in Northern Ireland, the latest estimate is one in 65, down from one in 40 in the previous week.

For Scotland, the ONS estimates that around one in 75 people had Covid-19 in the week to August 28, up from one in 140 in the previous week and the highest level since estimates began for Scotland in October 2020.

All figures are for people in private households.
