It's emerged that a patient was left on a trolley for 40 hours at Antrim Area Hospital. The close on two day wait in January, is believed to be one of the worst across Northern Ireland's NHS this year.
The Northern Trust says "Antrim Area Hospital, as with all hospitals regionally, experienced severe and sustained demands over the first two weeks in January. This regrettably resulted in patients waiting longer in the Emergency Department than they should have. The longest wait in Antrim Area Hospital, before a patient was admitted, transferred or discharged, was 40 hours. All patients who were delayed in the Emergency Department were nursed in beds, cared for by an assigned nursing team and had a full treatment plan implemented with regular medical reviews throughout."
