A third person has died following collisions on the roads in Co Tyrone over a 24-hour period.

The PSNI said the man, 69, who was a pedestrian, died after a single-vehicle collision on the Great Northern Road in the Gortrush area of Omagh.

The incident happened shortly after 11am on Tuesday morning.

A police spokesman said one person was assisting with the police service's inquiries, and appealed for anyone with any information, or anyone who has dashcam footage, to contact the police service.

On Monday, an elderly married couple died following a road crash in Omagh.

The incident took place on the Doogary Road on the outskirts of the Co Tyrone town at around 2.30pm on Monday afternoon.

A car and a lorry were involved in the collision.

The PSNI urged any potential witnesses to come forward.

Inspector Keir Kitt said: "The collision on the Doogary Road was reported to us at 2.55pm and involved a gold-coloured Volvo car and a red-coloured Scania articulated lorry.

"Sadly, the occupants of the Volvo car - a married couple aged in their seventies - died at the scene of the collision.

"The lorry driver was uninjured.

"I am appealing for witnesses or anyone who was travelling on the Doogary Road between 2.30pm and the time the collision was reported to us to contact us.

"I am especially keen to hear from anyone who may have captured dashcam footage of the collision, or believe they saw the Volvo car prior to the collision."

SDLP West Tyrone MLA Daniel McCrossan has expressed his shock and sadness at the deaths.

"There is real shock and sadness in the community at the news that a married couple, aged in their seventies, have died following a road traffic collision on the Doogary Road," he said.

"My heartfelt sympathies go out to their family and loved ones. The times ahead will be difficult for them but I know the local community will rally round and do all they can to help and support them."
