A man in his 60s is recovering in hospital after he was beaten to the ground and kicked in the face and head in Bangor last night.
The attack happened outside a pub on Castle Street at about 10 pm.
A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing Greivous Bodily Harm and remains in custody.
In a statement, a police press officer said: "Detectives in Bangor are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault at Castle Street on Saturday 21st May.
"It was reported at around 10pm, that a man, aged in his 60’s, was approached in the street outside licenced premises, by another male who head butted him to the ground and then kicked him on the face and head. The attack followed an altercation inside the premises a short time earlier. The injured man sustained a number of facial fractures and an injury to one ear as a result of the attack and is currently receiving treatment in hospital. A 42 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and remains in custody assisting officers with their enquiries.
