Belfast City Council has appointed a senior barrister to carry out an independent investigation into the events surrounding the cremation of veteran republican Bobby Storey.
Mr Storey was cremated at Roselawn Cemetery in east Belfast on June 30th.
The council, which runs the cemetery, came under fire after it emerged as many as 30 people attended the Storey funeral, however, eight other families whose loved ones were cremated on the same day were told they couldn't attend the cemetery.
The following week the council apologised to those families.
Peter Coll QC is conducting the investigation.
He was one of the lawyers involved in the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) inquiry.
Mr Coll is expected to look at why Mr Storey's family was treated differently that day, to the relatives of other people who were also cremated.
The probe will take around 6 weeks to complete and after that the findings will be presented to elected members at Belfast City Council and will be made publicly available.
