Charities and community organisations are encouraged to the Reuse Scheme.
It’ll take place at the newly reopened Drumcoo Recycling Centre in Dungannon.
The recycling centre enjoyed a £500,000 boost from Mid Ulster District Council.
An additional £250,000 funding came from the Rethink Waste Capital Fund.
The reuse scheme came about as part of the redevelopment work.
Residents can drop off any unwanted household which can then be picked up by charities or community organisations to refurbish and reuse.
Residents will also be able to donate unwanted, usable paint which is then made available free of charge to the public for use in the home and garden.
Again, charities and community groups will also be able to access the paint for community projects.
Chair of the Council, Councillor Trevor Wilson, says any initiative which reduces the amount we send to landfill is incredibly worthwhile.
“I hope the public get behind and fully embrace the scheme and utilise it to dispose of unwanted items that can then be used again to benefit the wider community,” he says.
The Chair of the Council’s Environment Committee, Councillor Clement Cuthbertson says the council is committed to reducing the environmental and financial costs associated with sending waste to landfill.
“We can extend the life span of items through reuse, repair and restoration, turning what would otherwise become waste into a valuable resource. I thank residents across the district for their ongoing efforts to separate their waste, for recycling and reusing as much as possible, and encourage them to make use of this reuse scheme.”
