Derry-Londonderry will feature as a Host Port in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race in 2018.
The decision was confirmed by Derry City and Strabane District Council at its Business and Culture Committee meeting on Tuesday.
Race organisers agreed a six year deal as part of the city's UK City of Culture title in 2013, but that came to an end last year.
Clipper Race Chairman and Founder Sir Robin Knox-Johnston said: “We are very pleased to continue our long-term relationship with the city of Derry-Londonderry.
“Over the past six years the city has welcomed our international crew, supporters and partners with open arms and is an exceptional place to visit and do business with.
"The spirit of Derry-Londonderry and its people is contagious, which has consistently positioned itself as one of the most popular destinations the race has partnered with in its 20 year history."

The Derry-Londonderry-Doire yact has not been confirmed as a competitor in this year's race because of funding concerns.
Clipper races sport a 40,000 nautical-mile race around the world.
The 2016 Foyle Maritime festival reportedly brought £3.5 million to the local economy with around 163,000 visitors involved.
