Fresh appeal issued over man's death in South Belfast

Detectives have re-launched appeals for information one week after recovering a man's body from the Shaw’s Bridge area of  South Belfast.

The man had no identification,  was not wearing any distinctive jewellery, nor does he have any tattoos or piercings.

Police say the only distinctive marks he had were two compression bandages on his left upper arm, and an appendix scar.

At the time police said the victim was approximately in his fifties, around 5' 8" in height and was wearing a black t-shirt, navy blue jeans, a distinctive dark coloured belt with a sliver rectangular buckle, and navy trainers in a men's size 10.

Detective Inspector Richard Thornton the Senior Investigating officer said, “I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to call us.

"To date we have received just over 30 reports from the public. Each of these reports have been investigated and eliminated from our enquiries.

“During our investigations, we have checked the man’s fingerprints against the Northern Ireland and UK databases, checked missing persons reports, have checked with hospitals and we continue to liaise with An Garda Síochána colleagues.

“While we are not treating this death as suspicious, it is important that we can inform the man's loved ones of his passing.

"We believe someone out there must know who this man is."
