At the weekend, 398 new positive cases were recorded in Northern Ireland, with almost a thousand documented in the past seven days.
On Saturday, the Department of Health reported 222 confirmed cases, the highest number since it started using its current testing model.
Another 176 were confirmed on Sunday.
The department does not update coronavirus related death figures at the weekend in Northern Ireland.
Minister Swann's comments came as the Health Secretary Matt Hancock warned the UK was at a "critical point" in the coronavirus crisis.
Mr Hancock insists national restrictions are being considered.
England's Chief Medical Officer will also set out the latest data on covid-19 later.
It's thought in a televised briefing later, Professor Chris Whitty will say the infection trend is heading in "the wrong direction".
Meanwhile, Stormont's Deputy First Minister also took to social media expressing concern about the rising coronavirus cases here.
She said the "virus is spreading rapidly within communities & claiming lives", adding that "COVID19 denial & complacency will result in more deaths."
