A nine year old boy has been taken to hospital, after being struck by a scrambler in Newtownabbey
The collision occurred yesterday evening at Mossley Pavilion on the Carnmoney Road.
The young boy is believed to be in a stable condition.
No one else was injured in the incident.
Sinn Fein's Jennifer McCann brought forward a motion on the same issue yesterday before the collision.
Sinn Fein MLA Gerry Kelly said urgent action should be taken to highlight the dangers of scramblers.
Mr Kelly said:
“Yesterday we brought a motion before the Assembly calling for a review of the current legislation regarding scramblers and quads.
“There is a clear need to address the problem of scrambler and quad use as a number of adults and children have lost their lives or have been seriously injured by these vehicles.
“Everyone, parents in particular, needs to be made aware of the law on scramblers and quads and where they can and cannot be used before they buy them for their children.
“The PSNI need to enforce the powers they have to seize these machines and work with other agencies to ensure that these vehicles are not used in any public places.
“Last night’s event shows once again that urgent action needs to be taken before another tragedy occurs.”
