Police Officers in Mid Ulster carried out road stops and checkpoints in Coalisland, Dungannon and Moy recently, following reports of anti-social behaviour and cars racing these areas.
This was a joint operation with DVA, aimed at educating and improving on road safety.
A spokesperson for the PSNI said:
"In total over a few hours, 31 were stopped roadside and vehicles checked by ourselves and DVA. VTG* and V1/V2s* were issued:
- 5 x VT5 Notice Defect were issued, defects included Broken springs, faulty suspension, steering defects, power steering fluid leak, ABS light, exhaust system not fitted. Lighting and steering faults.
- 3 x V1/V2 Notice of Probation issued for Defective tyres, Suspension faults, insufficient springs.
- 2 x-Endorsable Fixed Penalty Notice for Defective Tyres
- 1 x Fixed Penalty Notice for No Seat Belt(back seat passenger)
- 3 x No MOT
- 1 x One vehicle seized for using red diesel
- 4 x untaxed vehicles dealt with
- 1 x vehicles detected with No Insurance
- 1 x Endorsable Fixed Penalty Notice for Using a vehicle in a dangerous condition
- 1 x Ticket for an Illegal VRM
"* VT5 is a legal document issued by a vehicle examiner, which lists the defects found on a vehicle at the time it was inspected.
"The vehicle must then be presented for inspection at a DVA Vehicle testing centre within 14 days for further inspection.
"**A V1/2 is an immediate prohibition when the severity of one or more defects on a vehicle is considered to be a significant road safety concern.
"Under most circumstances this will be accompanied with a V27 suspension notice which gives authority to suspend your licence or vehicle certificate until all defects are rectified."
