Antrim worst hit as PSNI issues heavy rain flood warnings

Police here have issued a number of flood warnings after heavy rain across Northern Ireland.

The Met Office had already put the province under a yellow alert for downpours, advising that flooding was possible before upgrading that to an amber warning for south and eastern areas.

It also urged drivers to slow down on usually notorious routes because of difficult driving conditions.

There is also disruption on a number of Translink services.

Motorists avoid the following areas in Antrim due to flooding - traffic is at a standstill.
Randalstown Road
Ballymena Road
Oriel Road
Dublin Road
Drive carefully as other roads in Antrim are also affected by the severe weather.

Motorists are asked to exercise extreme caution when driving on the Malone Road, Belfast close to the Ulster Clinic as a manhole cover has been dislodged due to heavy rainfall.
