Residents have been allowed to return to their homes in north Belfast following the removal of a viable pipe bomb.
The alarm was raised on Wednesday afternoon after the object was found in the front garden of a house on Roseleigh Street, in the Cliftonville/Oldpark area.
Detective Sergeant Sam McCallum said the Army bomb squad attended the scene and inspected the device, which they declared to be viable.
It has been taken away for further forensic examination.
A number of homes had been evacuated and roads closed due to the security alert.
SDLP councillor Paul McCusker said: "This is the last thing that people in this part of our city want or need."
Police have asked anyone with any information to come forward.
Local people say they were terrified during the security operation and are disgusted now it's confirmed as a bomb...
