With one month remaining until the completion of work at Market Square in Dungannon, a temporary change to the access to the Square’s car park is being introduced.
From today (Tuesday 24th October) all vehicles will drive both into and out of the car park via the upper entrance in Market Square, by the cenotaph where access has been widened.
The bottom car park exit will, therefore be closed and a turning area provided to allow vehicles ease of movement.
The change is to facilitate works now taking place at the lower end of the Square, as part of the £300,000 investment in the town centre by Mid Ulster District Council, and will also assist with improved timings at the traffic lights at the bottom of the Square.
While the Council is not responsible for traffic management or roads issues, it is working to resolve problems which arose from the first phase of a public realm scheme in the town in 2012.
Northstone (NI) Ltd is delivering the project on the ground which will bring alterations to the junction at Irish Street, a left turn only from Market Square onto Church Street and a change to the Give Way at the entrance from Thomas Street to assist with pedestrian safety.
New and improved pedestrian access around and across the Square is also included, together with wider parking bays for ease of customer parking, the addition of a footpath at the Square’s car park and additional car parking in the square when it is not hosting events.
The improvement scheme is scheduled to complete on 23 November 2017.
