Tributes paid after Monaghan U20s GAA captain dies in car crash

The teenager who died following a two-vehicle crash in County Monaghan on Friday night was Monaghan GAA's Under 20 football captain Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh.

The 19-year-old was driving home after his team's Ulster semi-final win against Donegal when the two-vehicle collision occurred. 

It happened on the N2 at Tullybuck near Clontibret, shortly before 11.30pm. 

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

His local GAA club Monaghan Harps tweeted: “Our club is devastated at the news of the untimely death of our senior player and county U-20 captain Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this very sad time. All club activity has been postponed until further notice.”

Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

Any road users who were travelling in the area and who may have camera footage (including dashcam) are asked to make it available to investigating Gardai.
