Translink has released the shortlist for its ‘Foyle Legends’ campaign which will see two Derry~Londonderry Legends featured and celebrated on a city centre bus.

Following the public nomination period, a Foyle Legends judging panel has created a shortlist based on hundreds of submissions. Voting takes place online, meaning it is the public who will decide which two legends will ultimately feature on the special Double Decker bus wrap.

Judges were asked to select a shortlist of individuals who’ve made a positive impact in their field, have a connection to Derry~Londonderry and promote a positive image of the city. Foyle Legends must also be living and non-political.

The shortlisted 'living legends' are:

·         Phil Coulter – Musician

·         Roma Downey – Actress

·         Neil Hannon – Singer

·         James McClean – Footballer

·         Martin O’Neill OBE – Footballer / Football Manager

·         The Undertones – Musicians

Following deliberations, judging panel chair Deirdre Heenan, Professor of Social Policy and Political Commentator at Ulster University said: “The Foyle Legends campaign has received a huge amount of attention from the people of Derry and right across Northern Ireland. With nominations for so many talented people in a wide range of industries, it was a difficult selection process, but we believe the six individuals chosen are each deserving of the ‘Foyle Legends’ title.

"The shortlist comprises of two high profile sports people along with four stars of the stage and screen, and the judging panel were unanimous in our decision that they are all fabulous ambassadors for the city.”

Chris Conway, Group CEO, Translink added: “There’s been a fantastic response to the campaign and we’d like to thank everyone who nominated and those who joined the conversation on social media! The high volume of nominations is a testament to the wealth of talent which has come from Derry~Londonderry.

"Only the public can decide and we’d encourage everyone who wants to celebrate these local stars to have their say by taking a few seconds to make their online vote,” said Chris.
