Surfer rescued after 30 hours at sea is released from hospital

A surfer who spent more than 30 hours stranded at sea last week has been released from Hospital. 

Matthew Bryce was taken to the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald after being airlifted from the water last Monday. 

The 22 year old from Glasgow set off from the Argyll coast on Sunday morning and was found with Hypothermia and skin damage. 

The search involved RNLI lifeboats from Campbeltown, Islay and Red Bay and Coastguard rescue teams from Campbeltown, Southend, Gigha, Tarbert and Port Ellen as well as the Coastguard rescue helicopter based at Prestwick.

Speaking just before his discharge, Matthew said “The care I have received here at the Ulster Hospital has been second to none from the staff in the Emergency Department on my arrival to Ward 15 staff, all the porters, domestics and everybody involved in my care for all the love, care and support shown to me through this particularly traumatic experience.
