IntoMedia Group, owners of The Irish News, Q Radio and Interpress, today announced Business Beats Cancer Belfast, a network of dedicated business leaders committed to raising awareness and vital funds for Cancer Research UK, as its 2025 Charity of the Year.

In 2023, the Group experienced the heartbreaking loss of two cherished colleagues, Hugh Russell and Dawn Egan to cancer. This partnership not only holds a deeply personal significance for the organisation, but it also honours their memory and legacy.

Business Beats Cancer Belfast, established in late 2018, ensures that all funds raised directly benefit Northern Ireland.

Locally, the charity is funding six pioneering cancer trials at the Patrick G Johnston Centre for Cancer Research in Belfast, addressing breast, bowel, oesophageal, and lung cancers. These trials are at the forefront of developing innovative treatments and early detection methods. Additionally, the charity co-funds the Adult Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre, which accelerates laboratory discoveries into clinical treatments, and supports the Northern Ireland Biobank, which collects patient samples to drive cutting-edge research.

The charity’s flagship fundraising gala dinner will take place on Saturday, 22nd March at Titanic Belfast. The event will be hosted by Q Radio Breakfast Presenter and comedian Andrew Ryan, with entertainment provided by fellow Breakfast Presenter and DJ Connor Brennan. The Irish News’ Business Editor Gary McDonald will also deliver a keynote address on the evening.

IntoMedia Group colleagues will also participate in a range of fundraising activities throughout the year. Additionally, Business Beats Cancer Belfast will be the charity partner at The Irish News’ two flagship events, the Workplace and Employment Awards and the Ulster All-Stars.

Speaking on the announcement, Annette McManus, Chief Marketing Officer of IntoMedia Group, said, “We are honoured to name Business Beats Cancer Belfast as our charity partner for 2025. This cause is very close to our hearts, and we are committed to supporting their outstanding efforts in advancing cancer research. Through our platforms, we aim to raise awareness of the remarkable work they do and help raise vital funds.”

Carley Shields, Chair of the Board, Business Beats Cancer Belfast, added, “We are incredibly grateful to IntoMedia for choosing to partner with Business Beats Cancer Belfast and for their commitment to supporting our mission over the coming year. Their dedication to making a difference through a series of impactful events will help us raise vital funds for lifesaving cancer research carried out in NI. Together, we look forward to creating meaningful change and inspiring others to join our cause. Thank you, IntoMedia, for your generosity and belief in our work.”
