A Ballymena man who previously played for the Northern Ireland Homeless World Cup football team has been remanded in custody in connection with an incident in which a gang allegedly entered a house and attacked the occupant.
Daly Mooney (24), whose address was given as Henry Street, appeared in the dock at Coleraine Magistrates Court on Friday in relation to an incident in the early hours of Thursday at Crebilly Road, Ballymena.
Mooney, is charged with maliciously causing grievous bodily harm with intent to a man.
He is also accused of aggravated burglary by stealing mobile phones and chocolate bars, with a combined value of £153, while possessing a claw hammer.
Mooney is also charged with possessing cannabis.
A police officer told the court she believed she could connect the accused to the charges.
No application for bail was made and Mooney was remanded in to custody to appear before Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday, June 8.
On Thursday police said three men attacked the occupant of a house at 2.30am at Crebilly Road and then made off with several items including a bicycle.
