Councillor calls for local government to get regeneration powers

A  Coleraine Councillor is pleading for local councils to be given regeneration powers, to stimulate the local economy.

Councillor William McCandless has placed a motion before Causeway Coast and Glens Council, calling on the Secretary of State  to make the move.

The Councillor says he's frustrated that almost five months on from the Assembly election, there's still no functioning government.

Plans to transfer regeneration powers from Stormont to councils, were put on hold indefinitely in November 2015.
