Police have seized a Peugeot 206 which they're linking to the murder of a Dad in Newry.

33-year-old Brian Phelan  died after a suspected stabbing on the Carrivekeeny Road yesterday afternoon.

These people in the area have been speaking to Q Radio.

His distraught partner, Amanda O'Riordan, has been speaking exclusively to Q Radio and has paid an emotional tribute.

Amanda says she's been overwhelmed by the love shown to her by family, friends and the local community.

Police say a 27-year-old man's been arrested and is being questioned about the killing.

PSNI Detective Chief Inspector Eamon Corrigan has issued a direct appeal surrounding a car they believe has been used in the killing.

“I am making a specific appeal for the public’s assistance in locating a blue coloured Peugeot 206, registration SX53 BYW, that we believe was involved in the murder" he said.

"I believe this car is somewhere in the Newry area and I am appealing for anyone who sees the car not to touch it but to contact police immediately.

"I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area of Carrivekeeney Road or the general Newry area who has any dash-cam or mobile phone footage of the Peugeot car to get in touch with us."

Sinn Fein councillor Roisin Mulgrew said the circumstances of what happened are unclear.

"My thoughts go out to the family and friends of the victim who are trying to come to terms with this terrible news," she said.

"Circumstances are unclear at present however I would appeal to anyone that has any information about this incident to contact the police."

SDLP MLA Justin McNulty described the area where police reported the incident as having taken place as quiet and residential.

"This has come as a big shock to me, and to the community," he said.

"I would encourage anyone with information to go to police."
