Lyrica and Diazepam stolen from South Belfast pharmacy

Vital prescription medication has been stolen from Ardmore Pharmacy in South Belfast.

Police say a man forced his was into the premises on the Ormeau Road just before 1.30 this afternoon.

The intruder was intercepted by local councillor Séamas De Faoite  - who had been out canvassing at the time.

The man then made of in the direction of City Centre - with drugs including Lyrica and Diazepam.

Mr De Faoite says it'll cause concern among local people:

Sergeant Malcom said:

"We received a report around 1:30pm that a male had forced entry to the premises. 

"When he was disturbed, the suspect fled on foot in the direction of the city centre. He is described as being around 5' 10'' tall with facial hair and of a pale complexion. He is reported to have worn jeans, a grey and blue-coloured hooded top.

"A quantity of prescription drugs - Lyrica and Diazepam - was reported stolen during the burglary. 

"I would urge the public to be vigilant and to ensure they do not put their health at risk by purchasing medication from an illicit source. I would appeal to anyone who finds prescription medicine, or is offered prescription medication for sale to call us immediately on 101.

“People should only take medicines in consultation with their healthcare professionals who have access to patient health records, who are qualified to assess their medical needs and can take into account the risks and benefits associated with every medicine.
