Man arrested in connection with attempted murder off PSNI officer in Fermanagh

A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of an off-duty police officer in County Fermanagh.

The officer was confronted by a gunman at his at home in Kesh in the early hours of yesterday morning.

He was at home in the Rosscah/Crevenish Rd area at around 2am when he first noticed movement outside his property.

The gunman then made off on foot across nearby fields close to the local football club.

Police say a primary line of enquiry is that "organised criminal elements" may be responsible.

Detective Chief Inspector Julie Mullan has been speaking at a press conference in Enniskillen:

DUP leader Arlene Foster said “The brazen attempted murder of a police officer in Kesh, Co. Fermanagh is an outrageous attack on a public servant and must be condemned."

"It is a reminder of the threat and danger that police officers face on a daily basis as they try to protect our community. "

"I have spoken with the police.  They request that anyone with information which may be of use to their investigation should come forward.”
