Strandmore House has played host to the rich and famous, the great and the good and a man who would be President. John F. Kennedy was one of several well known names to stay at the historic venue on the North Coast. Now for £1.6million, it can be yours.
The site in Portrush has a long association with Royal Portrush Golf Club. Built some time around 1860, the house was purchased by Doctor Sloan Bolton in 1937. The house has remained in the Bolton family for over 80 years, and Dr Sloan Bolton served as Captain of Royal Portrush between 1938-40. Meanwhile, his wife Zara Bolton was an English International player, who was Captain and President of the Ladies Branch of the Royal for over 30 years until her death in March 1994.
Continuing the golf connection, Portrush native and 1947 Open winner Fred Daly was a regular guest to the house. However, the most illustrious visitor to the House was future president of the United States, John F Kennedy. JFK stayed in the house in August 1940 with his father Joseph Kennedy, when the latter was ambassador to the U.K.
