Police at the scene of two security alerts outside Ballymoney

By Q Radio news

A number of security alerts at Bann Road and Glenstall Road at Bendooragh near Ballymoney have ended.

Police say a number of roads in the area were closed as police and ATO examined three suspicious objects which were discovered in the area on Sunday.

Two of the objects were found to be fireworks and the third object was nothing untoward.

All roads have now re-opened and officers would like to thank residents and road users in the area for their patience whilst they worked to ensure their safety.

An investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call detectives in Coleraine on the non-emergency number 101 quoting reference number 430 31/01/21, or to submit a report online using the non-emergency reporting form via http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/. You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at http://crimestoppers-uk.org/.

North Antrim DUP MLA and Policing Board Member Mervyn Storey has described as reckless the actions of those who left the objects at the Agivey bridge and at another location on the Bendoragh Road outside Ballymoney.

Commenting Mervyn  Storey said,

"What ever the intent or whoever was involved in bringing these objects to these locations, it is dangerous and reckless.

No cause is served by these actions.

Haven spoke to the local PSNI Commander this morning I have been assured that all action will be taken to find those responsible for this incident and ensure the community is safe.

The local community has been disrupted and actions like this just bring unnecessary fear and anxiety.

I would appeal to anyone who has any information that would be useful to the Police to contact the PSNI."
