Five teenagers have been arrested following reports of an altercation in Strabane.
A group of four boys, aged between 15 and 17, were attacked in Ballycoleman estate at about 9.10pm on Saturday, police said.
One of the attackers is reported to have been armed with a pocket knife.
Those arrested included two 18-year-olds, two 17-year-olds and one 16-year-old. They were all male.
Police said they fled the area on foot and were arrested when officers stopped a bus on the Beltany Road outside Omagh.
Police have urged anyone who was in the area at around 9pm on Saturday and witnessed what happened to come forward. Officers can be contacted by calling 101, quoting reference 2043 06/03/21.
SDLP West Tyrone MLA Daniel McCrossan has appealed for information after a group of four boys were attacked in the Ballycolman area on Saturday night.
Daniel McCrossan MLA said:
“Everyone in Strabane should feel safe in our community. News that a group of four teenage boys were attacked in the Ballycolman estate on Saturday night is deeply worrying. Worse still is the suggestion that one of the attackers may have had a pocket knife.
“This is the last thing that this community needs. I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at around 9pm on Saturday night to come forward with information.”
