Jonathan Rea meets fans at Belfast City Airport

Q Radio Sport

Northern Ireland's motorcycling world champion Jonathan Rea has returned home to a hero's welcome.

The Ballyclare man made history at the weekend by becoming the first rider to win three consecutive World Superbike titles.

After his record-breaking victory in France, Rea arrived at Belfast City Airport last night to be greeted by family, friends and fans.

He says the scale of what he's achieved then started to sink in.

A homecoming event staged by the local council is being held tonight at Sixmile Leisure Centre in Ballyclare.

Jonathan was welcomed with a hug from his proud sister, Chloe.

We've been speaking to some of his biggest fans.

Jonathan's set to be introduced to the crowd at Northern Ireland's World Cup qualifier against Germany at Windsor Park on Thursday night.

So does the Superbike champ think Michael O'Neill's men can secure a shock victory against the reigning world football champions?

Former world champion Jeremy McWilliams was also at the airport for the Rea return.

He says the 30-year-old is a special talent.
