The Danske Bank Premiership could be back up and running in late July.
Football chiefs are considering two options for finishing the current season.
One is playing the final two rounds of league games before the scheduled split into a top half and bottom half.
The season would then end with all the clubs having faced each other three times.
The five post-split fixtures would be scrapped.
Any matches are likely to be behind closed doors, or with restricted numbers of spectators.
It's hoped the Irish Cup - which is at the semi-final stage - can be completed with the final at the start of August.
The Northern Ireland Football League issued an update on Tuesday night:

Play last two pre-split games or use a formula to determine league positions.

The Irish FA has given the green light for training to resume, with restrictions.
There is to be no contact and groups are limited to six people.
The groups have to be kept separate, social distancing is to be practised and strict hygiene measures must be in place:
