Four people have been taken to hospital following a serious road traffic collision involving a school bus and car in Clough, Co Down.

It happened on the Downpatrick Road, shortly before 8:40am.  

The driver of the bus, the driver of the car and his passenger have been hospitalised. 

Meanwhile, twelve pupils were on board the bus; two were treated at the scene by paramedics and a third was taken from the scene to hospital for treatment. 

The PSNI says the injuries of the pupil's are believed to be non-life threatening. 

Officers remain at the scene and the road is expected to be closed for some time. 

Local UUP Councillor Alan Lewis said he air ambulance was also called to the scene of the crash.

He said, “I thank the air ambulance team for their continued commitment and dedication to urgent response care within our community, an absolutely vital resource particularly at this time of deep uncertainty.

“My thoughts are with all those injured in this morning’s incident, I hope and pray they make a full recovery, the entire community send their best wishes to all involved.”
