Mid Ulster people targeted by HMRC phone scam

Police have been receiving a large number of reports from people in Dungannon and the surrounding areas, who have been targeted by fraudsters over the phone. 

These con artists are claiming to represent HMRC and say the individuals owe them money. 

According to the PSNI, reports vary slightly however they all seem to involve a threat that HMRC is going to sue the targeted person unless a sum of money is paid. 

A police spokesperson posted on social media to warn the public, 

"Please be aware of scam phone calls from HMRC claiming money is owed to them.

"Police are aware of these calls across Mid Ulster and can confirm that they are fraudulent and should not be actioned. 

"Don't become a victim of fraud and be vigilant when sharing personal details online and off."
