Galway end 29 year wait for All Ireland title

Galway took the Liam McCarthy cup across the River Shannon yesterday after beating Waterford 0-26 to 2-17 in the All Ireland Hurling final at Croke Park Yesterday.

The game remained close, with the Galway holding a narrow 0-14 to 2-7 lead heading into the interval.

However, Galway pulled four points clear in the dying embers of the game to secure a first All-Ireland since 1988.

Waterford were aiming to end an even longer title drought, the Crystal County last lifted the Liam McCarthy 58 years ago in 1959.

However it was to be the Tribesmen's day with Galway Captain David Burke lifting the famous trophy.
